Police Arrest 41 Suspects Over Assaults on Bobi Wine Supporters in Gulu City

According to the Aswa West Police spokesperson, ASP Ongom David Mudong, the arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation carried out on the night of December 18, 2025.

Gulu City — Police in the Aswa West region have arrested 41 suspects in connection with assaults and looting that occurred during National Unity Platform (NUP) campaigns in Gulu City on December 6, 2025.

The incidents happened when the NUP presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, was campaigning in Gulu City Centre. Police say several people believed to be NUP supporters were assaulted, while property belonging to members of the public was vandalised and looted.

The incidents triggered widespread public outcry, with sections of the public alleging that elements within the military colluded with recruited criminal gangs to intimidate and terrorise residents of Gulu City.

According to the Aswa West Police spokesperson, ASP Ongom David Mudong, the arrests followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation carried out on the night of December 18, 2025. The operation covered Gulu City and its surrounding suburbs and was informed by CCTV surveillance footage and other intelligence sources.

“As a result of this operation, 41 suspects were arrested and  currently being held at Gulu Central Police Station to assist with investigations,” ASP Ongom said  in a statement .

Among those arrested is Aleng Fatuma, whom police allege was involved in mobilising suspected criminal gangs through various media platforms, including TikTok. Police noted that investigations are ongoing and that more arrests are likely as efforts continue to track down all those involved.

ASP Ongom urged residents of the Acholi sub-region to remain calm, assuring the public that police will ensure all suspects found culpableare dealt with in accordance with the law.

Police say operations will continue to restore and maintain law and order and to prevent similar incidents during future political activities.
