As His Grace, Dr. John Baptist Odama, the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gulu led the reflections of the Archdiocese of Gulu Education Week, which concluded with a Fundraising Dinner at Acholi Inn Hotel on November 18th, it has been revealed that UGX 21 million has been collected in cash and pledges of monies worth over UGX 60 Million including in scholarships at Layibi High Secondary School, University of Scared Heart, Gulu Institute of Health Sciences among others were recorded.

The Archbishop has a target of UGX 2.5 Billion to support scholarships for needy students, recruit more staff in the Educational Sector of the Archdiocese, and Rehabilitation work of the Education office at the Dioceses among others.

This benevolent act by the Archbishop to support schools under his leadership has provoked the Omoro Woman Member of Parliament to come out of her closet having been a beneficiary of the act of charity of the Peace Icon Guru in Northern Uganda.

Lamwaka Catherine testified to the Elephant that she has been a vibrant and successful student leader at Sacred Heart, she didn’t have the financial resources to join the University, and Archbishop John Baptist Odama who oversees all the Catholic Founded schools within the Region was her last resort for a study of Bachelor of Development Studies of Gulu University in 2003.

The Omoro Woman Member of Parliament said the gestures of the Archbishop moves with her all the time and currently she is paying about fifteen  Students and eight already finished University study right from the time she was still the Resident District Commissioner.

‘There are so many people that we need to touch their lives and transform them, today I’m a Member of Parliament –what if the Archbishop had not given a hand to me?  That is why I’m trying my best to touch as many lives as possible.’

According to Lamwaka, some of her beneficiaries mistook her support for political reasons until; she narrated her in-depth story drive for charity.

One of my students who graduated in Petroleum Science from Makerere University through my scholarship program, each time he speaks to me shedding tears when I tell my story, he didn’t know why I was doing this. He thought I was doing it for votes but later he realized that someone did it to me and that is why I was extending it to him ’
