The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), AIGP Tom Magambo has today been in in Moroto meeting CID teams in Karamoja which was attended by the Regional and District Police Commanders in the Region.
He also paid a courtesy call on Major General Don William Nabasa, the third Division Commander as part of the Familiarization Tour of the Sub-region.
The Director who is being praised for bringing a lot of changes in the Directorate last year combed the sub-regions like Teso and Bugisu among others talking to officers under the Criminal Investigation Directorate upcountry on being firm and patriotic in doing their work and saving the image of Police from corruption.
Karamoja region is famous for cattle rustling and over the years President Yoweri Museveni has been frequenting the area to get a permanent solution to the problem since the rustlers invade neighbouring areas like Acoli, and Teso among others. Karamoja also borders Kenya.
Director, Tom Magambo told the Elephant News, that after Karamoja he would be heading to the West Nile Region as the next engagement destination.
West Nile on the other hand borders DRC and South Sudan hence very famous for smuggling items stolen from either border country.
The Familiarization tour of the sub-regions is aimed at strengthening investigations and cementing strong coordination with other agencies to combat crime in Uganda.
The Regional crime distribution report for 2020 to 2022 shows that North Kyoga was ahead in all the 28 policing Regions in Uganda with 17,605 cases and was followed by KMP North with 16,691.
The three policing Regions of North Kyoga, Aswa, and, West Nile had a total of 34,526 crimes committed in 2022. The statistic also shows that the trend of crimes committed in these regions has exponentially been increasing over the last three years. There were a total of 96,259 crimes committed.
