General Caleb Akandwanaho Alias Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) has directed the National Agriculture Advisory Services (NAADS) to give Omoro District Local Government Twelve new tractors to boost the fight against poverty. The Twelve Tractors include Six hand operated Tractors.

He observed that if leaders in Omoro district believe the Tractors will help in the fight against poverty and increase the number of commercial farmers to spur development, they can start with Twelve Tractors as able investors within the district could in the long run negotiate a gradual process of also acquiring tractors individually since government might not meet all the Tractor needs in Omoro District.

The directive followed a request by the Omoro district Leadership to the government through Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) to support Omoro with tractors if they are to reduce the dependency of the people on subsistence farming.

Okello Douglas Peter Okao the Omoro District Chairperson said 95% of Omoro’s population (over 200,000) according to the latest statistics from the government indicate that are still practicing subsistence farming to fight poverty yet it is totally against the government’s position of wealth creation by supporting commercial Agriculture as a sustainable approach to development.

“There has been Operation Lightening Thunder and Operation Iron Fist during the Lord Resistance Army war times but now you are leading Operation on Wealth Creation hence this concern of Omoro needs your immediate intervention”. The district Chairperson Submitted.

Gen.Saleh guided that the tractors should be under the management of the district and farmers shall only hire them to open their farms.

Gen.Salim Saleh the Chief Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator was the Chief Guest on January 9th,2024  during the pass-out ceremony of over 500 Local Leaders including the Local Councilors Ones (LC Is), Local Council Twos (LC IIs), Local Councilors Threes (LC IIIs) and the civil servant or the technocrats who underwent a one-week ideological training at Northern Uganda Youth Development Centre in Labora sub-county, Omoro District.

Catherine Lamwaka the Omoro Woman Member of Parliament who was the chief architect of the Leadership Orientation course for Omoro leaders said she is happy that the objective of the course is being met since Gen.Salim Saleh supported the implementation of the training resolution especially on the increase in production and mobilization of  Omoro farmers towards commercial farming.
