Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), the German International Organization would continue supporting knowledge and deeper discussion with the young people in Uganda and South Sudan on Migration and Refugee issues through its Youth For Policy (Y4P) programme on Migration.

This was announced by Anna Reismann, the Country Director for Kondrad-Adenauer-Stittung Uganda and South Sudan on January,30th 2024 from their Head Office in Kololo, Kampala while meeting Ojok James Onono a fellow in the 2022 Cohort for (Y4P) who was sponsored by KAS to present his Paper during the “International inter- and Transdisciplinary Conference “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 75: Rethinking and Constructing its Future Together”, which took place from 6-8 December 2023 in Ghent University in Belgium.

Anna said James Onono’s journey to Belgium to present on Refugees demonstrates the commitment KAS stands for in the Y4P programme by allowing the young people after the fellowship to continue shaping their understanding of migration and creating advocacy on the issues at both national and international levels.

James Onono’s Paper on ‘Improving Public Communication for Effective Service Delivery to Refugees in Uganda’, part of his contribution to the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung December 2022 publication ‘Examining Uganda’s Migration Policy’ was accepted in the ‘Migration and Human Rights’ Panel ‘of the Conference and KAS funded his trip to allow him to present the paper since the conference organizers had only provided accommodation to him.

James Onono said the fellowship was a blessing to him since it remodeled his writing of academic abstracts and built him for his postgraduate studies.

“I’m waiting for my Master’s defense for Strategic Communications at Uganda Christian University anytime from now because my book is back but the fellowship helped me in ensuring I didn’t have a difficult time with my Master’s work”. Onono said.

He called upon the young people to be on the look since KAS would send a call for another cohort of the Y4P this year.

Lucy Peace Nantume,Programme Manager at KAS told the meeting that the organization shall compile all the recommendations in the various Policy Briefs of the 2022 cohort and make it available to institutions the recommendation is meant for as other public engagement with them would be planned.

Briefly About Y4P:

Youth4Policy is an initiative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung aimed at empowering the next generation of policy experts to meaningfully contribute to policy analysis and public debates.

Youth4Policy serves as a capacity development lab for youth leaders from a diverse spectrum of backgrounds such as academia, civil society, and public service with a motivation to research and analyze specific policy questions from a youth perspective.

Particularly for the next five years, the fellowship program shall attract young researchers who are interested to study and explore pertinent policy questions around migration and forced displacement issues in Uganda and South Sudan.
