Gen.Wilson Mbasu Mbadi is the Current Chief of Defense Forces but as an army officer, he has come through the ranks, humbly serving in various capacities, notable for being the military Aide-decamp to His Excellency, President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta for over five years until 2012 and also served as the Fourth Division Commander until 2013 when he was appointed the Joint Chief of Staff of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.
In 2017 Gen.Wilson Mbadi was appointed the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, a position he served until 2021 where he became the Chief of Defence Forces.
According to his profile, Gen.Mbadi was born on the 6th of June 1962 but while talking during the Gulu Education fundraising drive organized by the Gulu Archdioceses, the man from Kasese who adopted Olara as a name for his socialization and love for the Acoli Community, let out the cat that tells details how he supported engineering his own date of birth with his father who didn’t go to school.
“You only hear about General Mbadi; do you know about my family? No-No-, It was just nothing, my father never went to school, even to ask him when I was filling the examination form, I said ‘Daddy they are asking how old am’, He said ‘Haha, I think you were born in the year we got Independence’ –that one from my studies, I knew was 1962 but which Month?” Mbadi told the crowd.
The General who spoke from his heart on Saturday the 18th,2023 narrated that his father told him, he was born on the month of harvest of the first season and he had to figure out that in his area the community normally makes such harvest around the end of May and beginning of June.
According to Gen.Mbadi, after agreeing on the month of birth as June with his father, he again had to ask him for the date. “The date-you find out yourself”. Gen.Mbadi said at that point, he made up his mind on the 6th as his birthdate and it is how he found his birthday celebrated yearly.
The humble General who had gotten everybody laughing over his birthday discovery gave UGX 10 million to the function as his contribution, according to him, it was Education that made him achieve in his military career, hence he felt obligated and couldn’t turn down Gen. Charles Otema Awany, who ‘ambushed’ him to the function of the Archdiocese.
The Archdiocese is the founding body for most of the influential schools in Northern Uganda like Layibi College, Sacred Heart Girls School, and Bishop Angelo Negri Primary and Secondary schools among others with current deteriorated performances in the National Examination.
