As Government of Uganda through Operation Wealth Creation and Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) plans to revolutionize Coffee farming in Northern Uganda by ensuring that at least a household in the Acoli subregion plants an acre of coffee, the Elephant in conjunction with Acoli NRM Media team profiles some of the already existing Coffee farmers as testimony that coffee farming in the region is already viable and ongoing.

70-year-old, Otim Maxwell Illilo who resides in Kamcoo, Hima Parish in Koch Goma town Council, Nwoya district is one of those farmers who started Coffee farming in 2012 and not regretting it. Otim said it was the then National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) that first gave him the coffee seedlings in 2012 when he only had 300 seedlings.

“Now I have a total of 1.5 acres and plan to add more during the rainy season and since venturing into coffee farming, paying my children in school and providing needs for my family has never been a problem”.  Otim said.

He also told the Elephant online that he was motivated by a friend called Ongaba Gabriel who is a legendary coffee farmer based in Koch Ongako Sub-County in Tochi County, Omoro district.

Otim also confirmed that a kilo of Coffee beans collected from home is going at UGX 7000.
