Phiona Nyamutoro, the State Minister for Energy and Mineral Development has expressed humility and empathy over the story of Mego Garshela, an 82-year-old pilgrim from Packwach Parish.
Nyamutoro who joined the Nebbi Diocese Pilgrim team on May, 27th from Bombo up to Matugga in a 16th-kilometer journey as the 541 pilgrims, narrated the story of the old woman.
“She shared her humble story with me along the way, birthed 10 children, and buried 7 of them with her husband too. Barely in touch with any of her 3 existing offspring but has hope that she can live to see what she failed to achieve with her children through the 16 grandchildren that are under her care. She prays that they get to succeed after school and drive one of the cars she admired on the road. This is her second year of pilgrimage with the same prayer!!”. The Minister posted on her X account.
The post by the Minister has attracted mixed comments from her followers on social media although some people like Caroline Mayenda. N asked the minister to provide the contact of the old woman so that people could show her some love.
People also queried the Minister to reveal what she was going to do after hearing her story but the majority of her followers just wished her faith and sacrifice to answer her prayers.
This year’s Martyr’s Day celebration is led by Nebbi Catholic Diocese under the theme Joshua 24:15 “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord “. We pray that God continues to raise more God-fearing households in our motherland Uganda and May His favour and protection never depart from his people.
