Uganda loses an estimated sh9.144 trillion (US$2.5 billion) to corruption every year, according to the Inspectorate of Government (2024) report. It is the government agency in Uganda responsible for promoting good governance, preventing corruption, and enforcing accountability in the public sector

That is money that could build schools, supply hospitals, or bring safe water to villages, among others.

Despite numerous anti-corruption agencies and many governments’ promises, corruption persists from the corridors of power to the smallest local offices.

So, what’s missing?
Could the answer lie
with the Church?.

In Uganda’s long struggle against corruption, even the most powerful state institutions have lost public trust.

Now, NRM Secretary-General Richard Todwong says the fight can no longer be left to government agencies alone.

He turns to the Church—one of the few institutions still respected by the people—to help confront this growing crisis.

We welcome you to the media podcast, where we explore whether the church can take up the mantle and confront corruption head-on. As public frustration grows, a new call is emerging—asking the church to rise and take moral leadership.

Our senior investigative journalist, Chowoo Willy, takes you through the slipping and government efforts that continue to fall short in the fight against corruption.
