Gen. Charles Otema Awany, the Commander of the UPDF Reserve Forces has pleaded with Gulu Catholic Archdiocese Archbishop Emeritus, Rev. Dr. John Baptist Odama, to support finding alternative land among other catholic mission’s land within Acoli-subregion to support the immediate setting of the multi-billion cassava processing plan being funded by the government.
Gen. Otema said the process at the earlier proposed site at Acholibur in Pader district is not progressing and it has halted the project development hence the Catholic church should get alternative land to fix the matter because the project is a game changer in cassava value addition for the people of Northern Uganda.
Gen Otema added that the Cassava processing shall provide great value addition mechanization to cassava farmers in northern Uganda and pleaded with Rev. Dr. John Baptist Odama to ensure every step is taken so that the project is not lost.

Archbishop Emeritus Rev. D.r John Baptist Odama promised to follow the matter to ensure whatever bottleneck is involved is handled to make the project speedy without any hindrances.

Gen. Otema was speaking during the burial of Jebedayo Labongo the paternal grandfather of Okello Douglas Peter Okao, the Omoro district Chairperson from Laminodwany village in Lakwaya sub-county, Omoro District, and Archbishop emeritus, Rev.Dr. John Baptist Odama was the main celebrant at the event on Wednesday,19th February 2025.
The burial of Jebedayo, a senior citizen who had clocked 108 years with 497 grandchildren attracted politicians and civil servants from across the region.
