As Gen. Charles Otema Awany finalizes his Laroo-Pece Division wealth creation tour at Gulu main market with the market vendors on Friday,7th March 2025. Led by their chairperson, Omaya Patrick, in a rare show of support towards President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta, all the market vendors knelt before the General and proclaimed support for President Yoweri Museveni’s sole candidacy in 2026.
Omaya Patrick started shading tears before Gen. Otema that he and his executives would wish to campaign for President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 elections and requested Gen. Otema to give them time as executives of the market.
The vendors also told Gen. Otema that one of the biggest challenges affecting them is the loan sharks who remove away their original national Identicards as a guarantee for the loan repayment. The vendors added that if elections are to be conducted anytime, they might not be able to vote due to absent of their national IDS.
Otim Geoffrey, the Mayor of the Laroo-Pece division on the Democratic Party ticket also applauded President Yoweri Museveni for the market to the Acoli people and assured Gen. Otema that even he shall be looking for President Yoweri Museveni’s votes.
“Gen. I want to promise you that we shall vote president Museveni so that we get more from government towards development initiative of our people”. Otim said.
Aber Gifta who coordinated the team of Gen. Otema but doubles as NRM chairperson for Laroo division and Councillor Four for Queens and Agwee wards thanked Gen. Otema for moving in Laroo-Pece after having done a similar tour in Bardege-Layibi division.
“I was very jealous when you were moving into the Bardege-Layibi division, now you have balanced everything -we thank you for all the endeavors to see service delivery and teach us how to create wealth in the philosophy of President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta”. Aber submitted
The excited General announced UGX 100 Million for the market vendors to support all the 32nd vending sectoral ranging from second-hand cloth, vegetables, and grocery sellers among others.
Gen. Otema also directed security to ensure that there is a better mechanism to see that original national IDs are not collaterals for loans and a better approach should be developed immediately so that there is a win-win on the matter.
