Lakony Michael, the Amuru LCV chairperson who has been one of the strongest Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Pillar in Amuru and the entire Acoli sub-region, has officially thrown in the towel and joined the National Resistance Movement Party.

Lakony who has been chairperson of FDC for over 15 years in his political career showed his new side openly when he traveled with over 20 other FDC members who crossed to the NRM and met President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta from Alebtong district during the president PDM and Wealth Creation tour in Lango-Sub-region on 30th January 2025.

During an interview this morning with the Elephant, Lakony confirmed the development saying he had only gone to make it public since he had already registered in the NRM membership Yellow book in 2023.

He told the Elephant that he plans to unseat FDC Gilbert Olanya for Kilak- South Constituency directly as a flag bearer of the NRM.

“I will never be in any opposition in my lifetime and will tell my children how hard it is to live in opposition. You could get ground support from the people as an opposition but higher government officials won’t take you seriously”. Lakony said.

FDC Gilbert Olanya who worked closely with Lakony for many years as FDC in uprooting NRM in Amuru district said he is happy that Lakony has joined NRM.

“I want to say Lakony has done well to change from FDC to NRM, we wish him well, but he was involved in many scandals including the Lakang land saga among others that staying in the opposition would have warranted his arrest. I think he just wants to redeem himself”’ Olanya said.

Lakony however explained that one of the motivations for his crossing to NRM is to ensure he closely follows services for Amuru people since the discussion and review of the NRM manifestoes is not done in parliament but rather in the NRM caucus.

“Look -like the 2021-2026 NRM manifestoes had a lot for Amuru district but few were implemented and yet other districts are moving forward. We have been rebellious as Amuru but now we also have to work inside with the NRM directly and I’m here for this”. Lakony narrated

Oceng Geoffrey Orsbon, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner who was among the people who accompanied Lakony to meet the president said NRM is a mass political party with an open door to receive anybody willing to join it.

“I’m happy that finally, Mr. Lakony has seen the light, now we shall transverse Amuru telling them that NRM is here to stay and improve lives hence the rebellious lifestyle of rejecting government should stop”. Oceng said.

Currently, Kilak South MP, Gilbert Olanya, Akello Lucy, a Woman member of Parliament, and Anthony Akol, a Kilak North member of parliament are all FDCs diehards.

The Amuru FDC squad is disorganized with Lakony Michael joining the yellow Bus since he was one of the strategic planners of FDC in Amuru and Acoli.
